Mr. Higgins comes to EEA after joining the company he founded 6 years ago, Vibrantcy, LLC, with our EEA New Mexico office. His previous experience before founding his own company was working in both a small sustainability consulting firm and a large commercial and government M/E/P engineering firm. He has a specialized undergraduate degree is in Sustainable Development from the University of New Mexico, and an MBA from the University of Phoenix. Consulting for energy projects, Mr. Higgins has conducted energy incentives research, energy audits, energy and daylight simulations, he has sized and planned renewable energy systems, developed site-specific combinations for energy efficient glazing, shading, and construction assemblies, and assisted with building equipment commissioning and control decisions.
Matt has worked on over 450 new and existing building energy modeling projects, over 100 of which had an associated LEED certification goal. His expertise also includes extensive energy measurement and verification studies, Energy Star building certifications, life cycle cost analysis, creation of specialized analysis tools, and a breadth of public speaking experience throughout the southwest.
As the current President of the NM Chapter IBPSA, Matt is able to use his past experience as President of the NMAEE and board member of the NM USGBC Chapter to create a new local group for simulation engineers. He is also actively involved in the creation and development of Albuquerque’s 2030 District and is working with the City of Albuquerque to develop a Bloomberg Clean Cities Initiative. In addition to his professional affiliations, Matt has created an online energy simulation tool for low-cost evaluations of new and existing buildings and teaches graduate-level systems integration part-time at UNM.
Matt likes to spend time with his 3 kids and wife – watching movies, cooking, playing basketball or tennis, and board-games. He loves to be outdoors to fish, camp, and ski, or go to sporting events and concerts. He also an avid reader and draws any chance he gets.
