MEP Design for “Austin’s 1st Food Hall”

EEA Consulting Engineers did the MEP design for one of “the seven most anticipated food halls in the world” according to Money Inc.

The downtown hub Fareground at One Elevenrecently opened as a marketplace and park. The place reimagined how the corner of 2nd Street and Congress Avenue could be and was repurposed.

“We are proud to introduce Fareground, an inside-outside, eat-drink, work-play, early-to-rise, late-to-close hub, all within walking distance of the heart of downtown Austin,” as their website states.

EEA Lead Mechanical Engineer Bryan Simler said, “We provided MEP renovation design services on the Fareground project, Austin’s first food hall, an indoor/outdoor hub that includes seven individual restaurants all in one place in the heart of downtown Austin. The food hall is part of the One Eleven Congress building, and successfully integrating the project into the existing skyscraper was as challenging as it was rewarding.”

Fareground offers unique and diverse food offerings for breakfast, lunch, happy hour drinks, and dinner. The food hall features seven local vendors including:

  • Fareground Bar
  • Antonelli’s Cheese Shop – Named one of the top cheese shops in America by Travel & Leisure, the shop owned by John and Kendall Antonelli will offer a variety of cold and hot plated items.
  • Contigo Fareground – The Chef Andrew Wiseheart is a three-time nominee for Food & Wine’s People’s Best New Chef and with his co-owner Ben Edgerton they will bring favorites from the eastside restaurant like their burger, crispy green beans, and hearty salads.
  • Dai Due Taqueria – An evolving enterprise that’s gone from a supper club to farmer’s markets to a brick-and-mortar restaurant and to finally a butcher shop, the team includes Chef Jesse Griffiths (a James Beard Award finalist), Tamara Mayfield, and Gabe Erales. Fare will feature tacos, tortas, and molletes filled with Texas game as well as seafood and veggies.
  • Easy Tiger Bake Shop – was named one of America’s Best Beer Gardens by Food & Wine and their Chef Andrew Curren is a two-time nominee for Food & Wine’s People’s Best New Chef. They offer house-cured meats, breads by David Norman, pastries, and espressos.
  • Henbit – is being led by seasoned individuals (Travel Bristol-Joseph and Page Pressley) who were previously crowned one of America’s Best New Restaurants by Bon Appetit and their Chef Kevin Fink was named 2016 Best New Chef by Food & Wine. In close partnership with local farms, Henbit offers healthy selections of salads, burritos, and more! There’s also coffee and tea options by Partner Rand Egbert.
  • Ni-Kome Sushi & Ramen – is a blend of two successful restaurants by Takehiro and Kayo Asazu – a husband and wife duo – who were awarded Best New Sushi Restaurants in America by Bon Appetit. Their menu will feature sushi and ramen sure to delight!

Besides eating food and relaxing in the park-like space, Fareground is available for events. “From sunrise yoga to evening live music, formal meetings to wine tastings, the space is designed to accompany the daily beat of downtown in a venue that’s unique yet in perfect harmony with the city around it,” The Fareground website states.

Next time you are downtown, check out the food and absorb the sun at the park.
