Out with the Old, In with the New

EEA Sponsors Waller Creek Conservancy’s Creek Show 2016

Since 2014 the Waller Creek Conservancy hosts a light-based art show of 6 illuminated exhibits running nine nights between 5th St and 8th St in downtown Austin, Texas. The exhibits are in and along the creek pathways and free to the public. The mission of the Conservancy is to create “a chain of extraordinary urban parks around a restored Waller Creek, in partnership with the City of Austin, for the benefit of all. The Conservancy renews the natural environment, promotes play, health and wellness, economic vitality, and mobility, and engages the comunity through outreach, education, cultureal events, and the arts.”

EEA became a Community Partner of Waller Creek Conservancy by sponsoring the ring structure, Deep Curiosity, designed by the east side collective (with Derrington Building Studio and Waxwing Design Studio) and built by Drophouse Design. The structure, pictured above, was a nearly three story aluminum arch that lit from the inside with LED light strips typically used to line the tops of skyscrapers. The reflection from the light gave the illusion that the arch was actually a full circle extending into the murky water below.

Top Workplace 2016

Once again, EEA’s employee-owners nominated EEA as one of the Top Workplaces in Austin.  EEA was ranked #20 of 55 small firms and was one of two engineering companies listed in all three size categories.

Thanksgiving and Christmas

This year EEA celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday with our annual chili cook-off competition (moved from April to November) and the launch of our Angel Tree Kids adoption program. The chili was judged by employees in a “People’s Choice” format. We never have answered the age-old questions of “beans or no beans?” so we will have another cook-off next year! Moving into December, our employee-owners had a great time at Punch Bowl Social with bowling, corn hole, darts and a wonderful buffet of food and beverages. A few brave souls even challenged each other to a karaoke showdown. The holiday fun continued with an office decorating contest, Toys for Tots collections, delivery of our Angel Tree gifts to the Central Texas Children’s Home, and an afternoon at The ABGBwith Build-A-Bike. What a way to end the year!
