Institute of American Indian Arts Residence and Studios

The Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, is a public tribal land-grant college founded in 1962, dedicated to advancing Indigenous arts and culture. Situated on a 140-acre campus, IAIA offers undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines, including Studio Arts, Cinematic Arts, Creative Writing, and Museum Studies.

This new facility will function as a residence hall and studio space for students. The building was equipped with a VRF/DOAS system. The VRF system has the ability to cool and heat zones simultaneously which will allow each dormitory occupant to achieve their preferred thermal comfort while maintaining high levels energy efficiency. The DOAS on the roof will pretreat any outside air ventilation required for the building, improving indoor air quality.

EEA provided mechanical and plumbing design and construction administration services for the project.

  • This project provides additional student housing and studio spaces, upholding IAIA’s masterplan campus design and respecting the solstice axis.
  • The design includes courtyards that allow for outdoor and extended teaching, learning, and studio spaces.
  • A student courtyard connects the new building to the existing campus through the commons area, offering views to the Jemez Mountains.
