“The engineer who built a startup consultancy into a multi-state business pulling in millions of dollars per year has handed over day-to-day leadership of the company to a trusted lieutenant,” Mr. Anderson began.
EEA has 82 employees — 68 at its home office in the Texas capital and 14 in a satellite office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Revenue was nearly $10.7 million in 2016; for 2017, revenue is projected at about $15 million, and the company has worked with more than 160 clients last year.
Mr. Anderson continued, “Hart started the business in 1977 as Energy Engineering Associates Inc. with just two employees. It now is licensed in all 50 states and the District of Columbia for mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services, energy conservation, commissioning, process utility engineering and utility master planning. It has completed thousands of projects around the world, including in countries such as the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Singapore.”
EEA President (effective January 1st) Todd Schmitt said, “Mike is leaving some big shoes to fill, but I’ve learned a lot from him over the last 23 years and understand EEA and our culture. I joined EEA with the intent of going back to school shortly after starting, but the culture and interesting work won me over after a few months. Over the years I have been exposed to all aspects of the company and intend to bring this understanding of the daily ins and outs to best leverage our talent to solve challenges.”

The founder and president of EEA Consulting Engineers, Mike Hart, will retire as president at the end of the year and focus on his responsibilities as chairman of the board.
Todd Schmitt, the firm’s current vice president, will assume the position of president of the Austin-headquartered, employee-owned firm effective Jan. 1.
Last week the ASHRAE Journal spotlighted three EEA people and their roles: Mike Hart as company board chair, Todd Schmitt as the new president, and recently hired Paul Scheibmeir as a senior project manager in our high-tech/semiconductor market in the Austin office.
