Every Christmas season, EEA employee-owners give back to the community through fun and meaningful charities. This year, EEA got involved in: Toys for Tots, Build-A-Bike Holiday Lunch benefiting the Ghisallo Cycling Initiative, Central Texas Food Bank and Salvation Army, and purchasing Christmas gifts for the Central Texas Children’s Home.
Toys for Tots is a program that collects new, unwrapped toys to distribute as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community. The goal is that the toy becomes a message of hope that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens. EEA Senior Project Manager Scott Simmons, P.E. has been the organizer for the past five years. This year, EEA donated two large bins of toys and Scott (see pictures here) delivered them to U.S. Marine Corp collection facility in Manor.
The Build-A-Bike Holiday Lunch is a program offered by the Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. (ABGB) benefiting the non-profit Ghisallo Cycling Initiative. Ghisallo’s mission is to “develop youth who safely and expertly integrate bicycling into their daily lives, to teach participants self-sufficient cycling skills, and to facilitate the experience needed for youth cyclists to be peer leaders,” according to their website. Individually, EEA employee-owners donated money to build five bikes. Bikes were assembled at ABGB on December 6. Check out the event photos here.
Central Texas Food Bank distributed in 2017 more than 45 million pounds of food, including more than 17 million pounds of fresh produce. The Food Bank is an organization EEA has partnered with for more than 20 years. EEA provides each employee-owner the opportunity to take home a turkey or donate the money to the food bank with a dollar-for-dollar match by a generous Food Bank donor. EEA employee-owners are making plans to volunteer in the warehouse in 2018. Our Albuquerque office also received turkeys for Thanksgiving or had the option to donate the cost of theirs to Salvation Army.
Central Texas Children’s Home since 1969 has helped the community “give broken children the better world they deserve,” according to their Facebook page. Their facility is situated on 152 acres of beautiful ranch land three miles south of the city limits. They have a capacity of 20 resident children in two cottages between the ages of 5 and 17 years old. All 25 Christmas wish list items were signed up for by EEA employee-owners, plus some extra sports equipment and a couple vacuum cleaners will be provided. Wrapped gifts will be delivered on December 18th.
“There is much to be grateful for this Christmas,” said EEA Founder & President Mike Hart. “EEA is honored to give back a portion of the resources of time, money, and talent to great nonprofit organizations who serve the less fortunate in our community.”
