EEA Principal To Present at Texas College & Universities Facilities Professionals Conference

The Association of Texas College & University Facilities Professionals (TCUF) is hosting their annual conference September 21-23 in San Antonio, and EEA Consulting Engineers Principal Mark Mikulinhas been selected as a speaker.

Mark’s presentation, which will be delivered in partnership with Texas State University, is entitled “Holistic System Operation: Getting Facilities and Utilities Working Together.”

In 2010, Texas State University facilities staff were faced with a record-setting enrollment of 30,000 students, an ever-increasing maintenance backlog, mandated energy conservation goals, and aging utility systems.  To meet this challenge, the staff began by obtaining a clear picture of the situation on campus through utility studies to identify weaknesses, an energy audit to locate conservation opportunities, and a building condition assessment. 

Today, after many in-building renovations, Texas State University serves nearly 40,000 students, has a dramatically decreased mechanical deferred maintenance backlog, and has improved utilities operation through energy reduction and refurbished infrastructure. 

“An essential component of this success has been the close coordination between campus facilities (buildings) and utilities (plants) personnel,” Mark said.  “This case study will illustrate why cooperation between these sometimes “siloed” groups are key to providing the best possible service to campuses,” he said.

EEA has also worked with campus facilities staff at Austin Community College, Concordia University, Sam Houston State University, St. Edwards University, Sul Ross University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University, Texas Woman’s University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas at Dallas, University of Texas at El Paso, University of Texas at San Antonio, UT Southwestern Medical Center, and many others.
