Located just southeast of downtown, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) serves as a major gateway for Central Texas, accommodating millions of travelers each year. As part of the airport’s ongoing expansion to support critical infrastructure, the City of Austin expanded the IT facility from 10,000 to 40,000 SF, designed to house essential office and data center functions.
EEA performed commissioning for the expansion of the IT Facility, located on the ABIA Campus. The 40,000-square-foot facility housed office and data center spaces which required tight temperature and humidity control. Given the temperature and humidity requirements, close coordination was needed between envelope and HVAC system design, construction, and commissioning. The MEP systems that were commissioned included air cooled chillers, central stations AHUs, VAVs with reheat, energy recovery ventilators, sound attenuators, and humidifiers. The electrical system included two backup generators and automatic transfer switches. Redundancy and reliability of the HVAC and electrical systems were a major focus of the design and commissioning process for the project.
