The Next Chapter of Leadership at EEA

EEA Consulting Engineers is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeremy Smith as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective September 2026. Jeremy succeeds Todd Schmitt, who is transitioning out of from the CEO role after years of dedicated leadership that helped position EEA for continued growth and long-term success. Todd will remain at EEA in an advisory role and assisting with select projects.

During Todd’s 8-year tenure as CEO, EEA strengthened its position as a leading engineering consulting firm, expanded its market presence while adding services, invested in its Employee Owners (achieving 100% ESOP ownership in 2025), and continued building on the company’s culture of Better Beings, Better Buildings, and Better Business. His leadership helped guide the firm through a period of sustained growth while maintaining EEA’s commitment to technical excellence, client service, and employee ownership.

Of the board’s decision to select Smith, Schmitt stated that

"Jeremy is a great engineer and a great leader of people. He always seems to maintain a positive and calm attitude even in the most difficult of situations. His exposure to the world of MEP/Consulting from several perspectives makes him a great choice to lead EEA into the future."

Jeremy began his career with EEA in 2000 before expanding his industry experience as an engineered products salesman and branch manager for a local representative firm. He returned to EEA in 2017 (a member of EEA’s boomerang club) as Principal and in 2022 became the Chief Technical Officer.

As CTO, Jeremy introduced educational and training programs (EEAU) for EEA’s Employee Owners, focusing on developing the team’s skills and enriching their knowledge of engineering. Mike Hart, EEA’s founder and current Chairman of the Board, stated,

"I am excited about the future of EEA as Jeremy's servant leadership style guides EEA into becoming a more agile enterprise, with the goal of continuing to improve our ability to assist our clients."

Jeremy’s focus will remain on continuing EEA’s long history of design excellence, which he feels is a direct result of the office’s culture of collaboration and growth through continuing education. His vision for EEA’s future includes purposeful but strategic growth, expanding in areas that make sense for the company by the addition of service offerings, geographies, and market sectors.
