EEA Consulting Engineers Founder and President Mike Hart announced he will retire as president at the end of the year and focus on responsibilities as chairman of the board. As of January 1, 2018, current Vice President Todd Schmitt will assume the position of president of the Austin-headquartered, employee-owned firm.
“I am pleased that Todd has embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm,” EEA Founder and President Mike Hart said.
“The board of directors formed a sub-committee to search for the next president 18 months ago, and I am grateful for the directors’ thoughtful guidance and encouragement,” he continued.
The search committee included two outside directors and Mike. The outside directors interviewed many EEA employees and internal candidates and also searched for possible outside candidates, with a specification of finding someone who was familiar with Employee Stock Ownership Plans, the engineering consulting business, and EEA culture.
“I am excited about this new opportunity,” said EEA Vice President Todd Schmitt who will assume the presidency role in January. “I look forward to continuing the example Mike has set for leadership with integrity and empowering employees to do their best. I believe the combination of employee ownership and new leadership from within will serve as a solid foundation for EEA’s continued success.”
Mike continued, “My primary role in the future as chairman of the board will be strategic planning and special projects where my technical expertise or personal contacts have high leverage. My hope is to mentor younger engineers in energy efficiency topics and business leadership.”
“I’m very thankful for the many people who have shared the journey at EEA over the last 40 years helping make EEA a great place to work and building the foundation for a bright future,” Mike said to employees. “I am very excited about the near future and expanded opportunities that will be coming for us all.”
